Last October 23rd I gave way to my first Dweezil Zappa Guitar Master Class in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
I did appreciate every minute of it, especially listening to his insight about guitar playing and how he managed to combine his family life with playing. It showed that he was just that awesome.
Then, I got curious about the Dweezil’s guitar pick and I did express the wish to have a closer look at it. Dweezil was kind enough to lend it to me. I had never owned a guitar pick like that one before. A handmade pick by Read Bear Trading Company, constituted of some sort of thick acrylic with four holes in the middle of it, like a button. I believe it would even look great on a vest!
Red Bear’s Original Flat Picks are very expensive and come in five different gauges. The cost varies between each kind of pick because they are sanded by hand. Light and medium gauges are $27 each, heavy gauge runs for $28 each, extra-heavy ones are $30 each and Gypsy Jazz gauges are as high as $35 a piece.
Since needs create meaning, as soon as I made it back home, I instantly took out my mother’s old button’s collection to try them out with the Gibson Supreme... Just in case one could have been a good yet cheaper alternative...
