After a year marked by health challenges, sustained civic engagement and a deep artistic shift, Marie Martine Bédard rises back to the surface with a perspective firmly rooted in the reality of the performing arts.
🎧 Projet Hippocampe: moving forward
Projet Hippocampe, an interdisciplinary work at the crossroads of music, neuroscience and survivors’ testimonies, continues to evolve.
In late 2024, work began on an English-language version of the album, and several new versions are already underway.
The conference & performance format is also in development, and the survivors’ testimonies featured in the project now have a dedicated home on her website: mmbedard.com.
Marie Martine also submitted Projet Hippocampe to the Ma première Place des Arts competition.
Although the project did not advance to the quarter-finals, the process helped affirm the uniqueness of her artistic approach and clarify its place within the current cultural landscape.
In parallel, she continues her work as Chair of the Regional Victims’ Advisory Committee for Quebec, while remaining active in a municipal political campaign and within the MusikElles collective.
Months of listening, meeting people and participating in community life have strengthened her connection to her communities and reaffirmed her belief in art as a catalyst for dialogue.
🎤 Returning to creation
And… because life occasionally offers surprising sources of inspiration, certain experiences — including an ex a little too eager to comment on her election campaign 🙃 — sparked new musical ideas.
A reminder that sometimes, detours become… choruses.
💙 What’s next
Marie Martine is also preparing material for a community outreach tour, which she hopes to bring to women’s centers, mental health organizations, victim-support services and municipal partners.
