When Art Becomes a Voice: An Artist-Activist’s Powerful March

March 2025 was a pivotal month for Marie Martine Bédard, standing at the intersection of her artistic commitment and her fight for the rights of survivors of sexual violence. Musician, activist, and tireless advocate, she made a lasting mark on this Women’s History Month with a series of events that showcased the power of music as a vehicle for memory and resilience

It all began at the end of February with an important recognition: she was appointed President of the Regional Advisory Committee for Victims. This role, at the crossroads of activism and institutional action, allows her to amplify the voices of survivors in decision-making spaces. “For too long, the voices of victims have been silenced. Today, we must not only listen but also give their words real impact,” she said following her appointment.

Then, on March 1st, she joined Tim Brady’s 100 Guitars for a large-scale event at Saint Joseph’s Oratory, a venue imbued with spirituality and symbolism. This performance, titled The Great Acceleration, embodied a rising intensity, a collective sonic liberation. “Playing in such a powerful ensemble is about feeling the force of the collective, a raw energy that reminds us that music can be both a cry and a form of solace,” she explained after the event.

Just a few days later, from March 4th to 6th, she took part in the Women in Music Summit, a gathering dedicated to the role of women in the music industry. In this space for exchange and reflection, she found inspiration and solidarity among fellow artists and professionals. “Being a woman in music is still a battle today, and this summit reminds us how essential it is to support one another,” she shared.

Between social engagement and artistic expression, this March was a true reflection of her journey: that of a woman who transforms hardships into creations, memory into melody, and silence into voice.

A commitment that, far from fading with the spotlight of March, will continue to resonate well beyond.
